What first caught my attention was the strong shape of the boat, resting above the ground with its bold blue hull standing out against the softer, more muted tones below.

The composition felt naturally balanced, but it was the smaller details that really brought the scene to life — the ladder leaning up to the boat and the bicycle nearby suggest a moment of pause, as if someone had just stepped away. These subtle elements help tell a story and give the painting a sense of place beyond just the visual.
As with many of my pieces, I began with an ink drawing to establish the structure. The clean, expressive lines help define the form of the boat and anchor the composition.
From there, I worked into the painting with loose watercolour washes, allowing the colour to flow and create a softer, more atmospheric feel.
The contrast between the controlled ink lines and the fluidity of the watercolour is something I always enjoy exploring. This piece, it allowed me to emphasise both the solidity of the boat and the calm, still atmosphere of the setting.
