Observing the Neon and the Shadow: Thoughts on City Street In this recent piece, Vibrant…
A morning in the market
Vibrant Market Scene
The challenge with a busy market scene is capturing the movement without resorting to clutter. In this “Vibrant Market Scene Painting”, my focus was on how the light cuts through the overhead awnings, creating pockets of high-contrast colour against the shadow.
Rather than detailing every face or item on display, I chose to work with quick, deliberate strokes of the palette knife. This approach allows the eye to fill in the gaps.
By keeping the forms slightly loose, the feeling of the heat and the jostle of the crowd remains more immediate than a static rendering could provide. It is a quiet study of a loud, everyday environment, held together by the play of oranges and teals against the bright, open path in the centre.
